Dark Spot over the neuromaI have had 2 injections for mortons. The first one didnt help at all. The second one helped some. That was 3 or 4 months ago. Now it is starting to hurt more again but I also have this dark spot that looks like a bruise on the top of my foot above the neuroma It also hurts now. Didnt have this before. Anyone else have this spot?
Re: Dark Spot over the neuromaI had a series of injections and developed dark spots at the needle entrance. They did fade after a short time. The needles did not work for me. I had surgery on both feet, July 9th, and have had a successful recuperation to date. Much less pain, little scaring, and I am able to wear sandals and crocs.
Good luck.
Re: Dark Spot over the neuromacan you provide some details about your treatment, surgery, recovery etc. I have just been DX with MN and recd my 1st cortisone shot last week. I still have the tingling in my 2 toes, so I dont know how successful it will be. How long between DX and surgery for you? how long recovery period did you need before you could walk around? Are you feeling like it is completely gone now after surgery?
Thanks
Re: Dark Spot over the neuromaI have been four years in treatment. I underwent two series of alcohol shots in both feet, that is where the discoloration became obvious after the second series. I also had the ligaments cut two years ago, hoping for relief from the compression. It was a quick fix. I was scheduled for sugery in 2007 but opted to try one more series (2nd set) of shots. I had some relief for a short time after each shot but I was avoiding the inevitable. After surgery, my podiatrist showed me the two nerves that were being sent out for biopsy, they were like strains of spaghetti. During my first post op visit, I was told that one of the nerves, (the worst foot) had a small cyst on it.
I was mobile immediately after surgery, walking on my heels to take care of personal needs, however I did the icing, elevation, and sheer rest for the first two weeks. The night of my surgery, I slept the entire night without waking with pains in my toes. I was able to walk around by the third week and felt most comfortable in Crocs. With the ligament surgery, I wore birkenstocks but the stitches were in between the toes, now they extend for about an inch+ on the top of my foot. It has been a little over 6 weeks and last night I wore a open back, close front, 1.5 inch heel dress shoe. So far, so good. I hope this helps.....I maintained a conservative approach and I do not regret doing so.
Re: Dark Spot over the neuromaI had the same thing happen after a couple of cortisone shots. Turns out cortisone causes skin thinning. My skin is kind of purple on the top of my foot over the neuroma. I stopped the cortisone shots and am on to the alcohol sclerosing shots, making sure that there isn't an anti-inflammatory (aka cortisone) in with these shots. So far, 4 painful shots, and only a very modest amount of relief =(
Re: Dark Spot over the neuromaHi there- I had the a novacaine type shot in my MN and then a steroid-type shot a couple weeks later. Neither shot helped with the MN Pain for more than a day or two. (That is why I had surgery three days ago.) Anyway, about the dark skin. My pod told me (after I had gotten the shots and suffered a severe sun burn in San Diego at the beach) that the shots make my skin extremely sensitive to sunlight and that I will have to apply sunscreen to the injection site on my foot FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! I can't believe it (and of course that would have been useful info before I went to the beach and suffered a sunburn that blistered and peeled three times just in the spot on top of my foot.) I assumed the darker skin color was due to tanning or just skin scarring from the sunburn peeling. I don't know if this helps- but I would apply sunscreen to the injection site if you're going to be out in the sun for a long period of time! - Stephanie in Arizona
