4 WEEKS AFTER SURGERYI was amazed to find out that my unusual, ‘invisible’ foot (pad under 3rd web, sharp burning, bone crushing) pain had a name, let alone a website & forum! I wish I had found this before my operation then I might have known what to expect.
After 2 cortisone injections which only lasted for 3 months, it was suggested that I should have an operation to remove the nerve, and as it was only a day surgery procedure (the website states ‘minor surgery’), I think I undertook it too lightly. So I was very surprised at the amount of pain I had for 3 long weeks, during which time I had an infection and my foot looked like a Hobbit’s, still does to some extent. The website also states that ‘ the patient can walk soon after surgery’ – I still can’t put any pressure on the front after 4 weeks- and that ‘ sometimes the empty space fills with blood resulting in a painful hematoma’- which must be what I’ve had. After the first 2 difficult weeks I had to go to my local surgery and ask for crutches, I don’t know how anyone is expected to get around without them. I still have to keep it elevated at times when I’ve been on it too long & it starts to go a little purple & even more swollen. I can only get a loose trainer on without laces, but hopefully things will improve from now, I’m not sure how long it will take to go back to normal & time will tell if it has all been worth it. I don’t know anyone else who has had this so I’m glad to hear from others who know what it’s like. I will report back in a couple of months.
Re: 4 WEEKS AFTER SURGERYHi
It actually sounds like you're having a "normal" recovery. I think it takes longer than any of us thought to recover from this "simple" surgery. I hope you don't get the shocking pains alot of us did while recovering. The good news is it does get better with time. I don't know if I'd do it again though. Best of luck.
