different surgery options3 years ago I had the total nail removed on the right great toe, due to tenting and severe ingrowth. Surgery was a breeze, honestly never felt a thing! Healing was uneventful, and is complete, though its certainly tender if someone steps on it!
11 months ago, I had nail surgery on the left great toe, which was also tenting and becoming very ingrown. The doc who did the 1st surgery semi-retired, and her brother took over. On this left toe, he convinced me to just have the sides of the nail removed, with the root, as it would be less chance of infection and faster healing time. What a crock! I have had way more trouble getting this to heal than the total nail removal! It hurts more, even wearing socks irritates it. I've been wearing sandals since last December! Now here it is winter again, and I dont wanna lose any toes to frostbite! I had to go to his office a few weeks ago, and he scraped off some scar tissue around the nail; that helped some, but it looks like the scar tissue is coming right back. I soak it once a week; I put Vit E oil on twice a day. I cant get the side edges smooth, so they catch on everything! I just want to go in and tell him to take the whole thing off, once and for all! Anyone have any tips, suggestions? Thanks for listening.
