healing calcaneal fracture

Post a new topicby babahe on Sat Oct 27, 2007 3:33 pm

Hubby suffered comminuted fracture of the calcaneus 6 months ago. Decided against surgery after research determined healing rates were about the same either way. He does not regret the decision, and feels he is improving daily. Still has pretty severe limp unless walking with workboots, and usually has a lot of pain and achiness at the end of the day.
We are looking in to getting some kind of insert to hopefully absorb some of the shock of walking, etc. and I'm looking for information re what would be the most effective and least costly. There's no way we can afford a custom orthotic (no insurance) so we're looking at OTC products. \
Any personal experience in that area would be very appreciated.
Thanks
Barb
