Chronic &Severe Foot Pain (bilateral)I have had this condition since 1997,suffered while on active duty in the military (Special Ops).Originally told that the pain was caused "by a heel spur and plantar fasciitus".Orthotics were finally prescribed after 1 year, and no physical therapy was given. The pain then began in my right foot, and became chronic & severe enough to warrant me leaving the service with a medical discharge.I have seen 5 podiatrists since then, all concurring with their findings. The pain has been worsening over this 9 year period, and currently I out of work now as per my Podiatrists orders.I was referred to an Orthepedic Surgeon who now says that "heel spurs causing pain are a "wives tale",and said that it is the plantar fascia causing the pain".He prescribed celebrex, and night splints, and stretching several times a day.He basically dismissed the previous Podiatrists belief that the heel spurs are a contributing factor.
Re: Chronic &Severe Foot Pain (bilateral)Hi Eugene,
Yes, I have been told by both of my podiatrists that the heel spurs cause no pain and that the pain is from the plantar fasciitus. I have had both feet operated on for plantar fasciitus, heel spur and tarsal tunnel. I am currently healing from one now. The pain is very bad like you describe and just wears your whole body down. I started out trying all sorts of shoe inserts, then was given cortisone injections which only temporarily mask the pain or do not help at all, I also took Vioxx and Bextra for pain. If you have had the pain that long no one has suggested surgery to you? It has helped my left foot greatly and like I said am healing from my right foot now. Good luck with your feet. I have sure had a battle with mine too. [quote] I have had this condition since 1997,suffered while on active duty in the military (Special Ops).
