Toe Pain

Post a new topicby AMC on Wed Mar 19, 2008 6:05 pm

Not sure where to post this question, but hoping someone will be able to help me. I have had episodes over the years where I wake up in the middle of the night from excruciating toe pain. It is usually my middle toe, and has happened to both feet (not at the same time). Anyway, the pain is throbbing, even the sheet hurts my toe, my toe is very hot to the touch, and very red. The toe usually stays very painful to the touch, and red for several days afterwards. I have several auto-immune weird things going on, that the doctors can't quite pin point yet, and this seems to be something else very strange that happens. I have read about gout, but it seems that appears mostly in the big toe, I have also read about Erythromelalgia. I would like to know if anyone has any ideas. I've been to the doctor before about this, a long time ago, they thought it was a bug bit.... it is not a bug bite. Haven't recently checked with the doctor to see if they have any new ideas.... Thanks for any help you could share.

AMC, It sounds alot like gout. You can have gout in any joint. My brother has it at times in his little toe and his symptoms sound alot like yours. I've heard from him and others how terribly painful it can be. His also always wakes him in the middle of the night and lasts for several days. Hope this may help in some small way. I sympathize with all foot pain sufferers.
