Charcot Foot

has anyone seen bilateral simultaneous onset of acute charcot foot?

i have a case now, 1 month duration, started fairly within a week of each other, and prior to any immobilisation intervention on the other foot. At presentation, navicular fractures bilaterally, and metatarsal fractures, and osteroporosis in a 54 year old type 2 diabetic for 2 years with established peripheral neuropathy normal wcc. crp 43, esr 70, no open wound, no suspicion of osteomyelitis. radiology report and rheumat opinion: charcot foot!!!

immobilised in cast bilaterallY? is there any indication for heparin prophylaxis in these patients while in a cast?

Definitely bilateral cast and non-weight bearing for 8-10weeks or until radiographic evidence of consolidation. If patient has a history of clots, then you should anti-coagulate them - I'd recommend asking his PCP if he has had any history of DVTs. Hope this helps!

if you as md could answer questions for me...after this happens once to a foot ...what are the chances of it happening again to same foot..and this is a questions i think i know the answer to...does wt have a lot to do with the damage...thanks
