When I was 9 or 10,I noticed that my 4th toes were shorter than the rest of my toes. I showed my mother, who quickly reassured me that they were “fine”. My toes weren’t fine and thus began my lifelong battle with this freak of nature. I was teased as a child and heaven help if someone who knew about my condition decided to share it with the rest of the world. I’ve tried to hide my toes for 35 years and it’s been hard to deal with. I can truly understand how you feel. Until today I didn't even know there was a name for my short toe! That is what I always called it. My mom always told me that my toe was not like that when I was born but I have had it for as long as I can remember. I am 23 years old and I was so self conscious throughout high school, even now. I knew two other girls in school that had the same problem. It's hard not being able to wear certain shoes b/c you don't want your toe showing or just because they are uncomfortable on your toe. In high school I would sometimes walk around painfully in shoes that didn't fit right because of my toe because I wanted to were the cute shoes everyone else was wearing. My husband says that it is no big deal to him but it is to me. For the first time, I wore a pair of flip flops outside of the house the other day. Even though my jeans were pretty long and you could barely see my toe, I was so uncomfortable b/c I thought everyone was looking at it. I still remember comments when I was younger about my deformed toe and I have always been self conscious about it, but like you said if all I have to worry about is a short toe when there are people born with many other defects much worse, I am very fortunate.

Thank you all for sharing.
