fractured ankle and torn ligaments any advice pleaseFeb. third injured ankle, diagnosed with fractured fibula, was casted for four weeks, cast was removed, was told to start to walk when I could, no physical therapy needed according to Doc,
next month Doc sent me to physical therapy The next month P.T. sent a note to doc suggesting an mri, mri said torn ligaments on both inside and outside, and something stretched or something in front, a month later I still hurt, swell and could not possibly stand on my feet for eight hours which is my job for the last eighteen years and really need to either have surgery or find out how to recover as fully as possible hopefully within at the most the next four months. Any suggestions or feedback would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks!
Re: fractured ankle and torn ligaments any advice please...You're aware that the -fibula- is the -calf- bone, not the -ankle- bone, right? Must've been a very low fracture to affect your ankle. Clean break, shattered or just cracked/chipped?
Besides the terminology confusion, if you fractured your -ankle- and tore the ligaments, etc, you probably ought to be in a cast, or at least some type of splint/air cast/ACE bandage, etc. The bone will need to be positioned so it will heal correctly, and then the ligaments will need either surgery (especially if torn completely through) or some other type of treatment. After that, probably a good few months of physical therapy and gentle exercises until it's back to a good working condition, but you may have to wear an ACE bandage (elastic bandage) or something else to stabilise your ankle for quite a while after that, to prevent re-injury. Hope that helps.
