Pain in twisted foot

Post a new topicby wpbraquel on Tue Jul 08, 2008 12:21 am

Hi, this is my first time here, I found this site during a search and I need some imput please!

Yesterday afternoon I was running errands and after exiting a place of business I missed a change of level right outside the door and my left foot twisted as it missed the ground. When I walked I felt some pain on the side (metatarsal bone?) but I thought it would pass, however, by the time I got to my next stop the side of I could see a bump/swelling on the pressure of walking make me hurt more. By my next stop I'd begun to limp a little, so I decided to stop by the office of a podiatrist that I saw a few years ago, however, they had already gone home so I drove home but stopped in two more places on the way. Once home I put ice on my foot for about 1/2 hour but it didn't seem to help, the bump looks the same and my foot hurts even more whenever I put the slightest pressure on it. I'm wondering if I could have a broken bone/ligament or if there's a chance it's just a bad sprain, does anyone know how to tell the difference?

I don't have insurance and my financial condition is not very good so if I could avoid the doctor's visit after all that would be great, however, I would not want my foot to become deformed if something is broken and it begins to heal out of place.

Thanks!

P.S. I just saw a video about how to treat a sprained foot and I learned I'm supposed to apply ice "30 min. on and 30 off" for 48 hours, so I guess it was ignorant of me to expect the swelling to go down that easily... :-o I still would like opinions though!
